It’s raining! Not only raining, pouring. On and off. I have just been out experiencing my two favourite pleasures of life: alfresco coffee and rain. Serious rain. I found the only outdoor table in my little shopping strip that is not subject to wind-borne droplets and sat there for the duration of not one, but two cappuccinos, one sudoku, two cryptic crosswords, and much gazing and absorbing of the atmosphere.
I *love* the autumn. You get cool days in the summer sometimes – days with the same top temperature as today – but they still feel like summer cool days rather than autumn days. There’s an atmosphere to autumn and a huge relief. We had a bit of hottish weather only 2 or 3 days ago and I didn’t mind because I knew it was nearly over. It’s amazing how suddenly your wardrobe changes from, you know, sandals to shoes. You suddenly realise you might as well put your sandals away for the winter even though you’d been wearing them every day for 6 or 7 months until only a week ago.
If you want me I’ll be in the sitting room working out how to ignite the pilot light of our wall furnace. Happy days. And on the weekend I might go up to the mountains where I can have a wood fire. Even happier.
Cryptic crosswords?? I’ll be in that! I love them…absolutely flogging down here at the moment…it’ll stop soon though and it’s still 30 so I don;t mind too much!
Love wood fires too, although we don’t have too much call for them here
