who knew cats could do this?

We have two cats and we leave the back door slightly open during the day so they can come in and out, and close them in at night. Although they spend most of the day in the house lying around, as soon as they suspect it might be door-closing time, they head outside. It’s become a bit easier since daylight saving ended because it’s dark by the time we give them dinner so we can close the door while they are eating.

They love the food we have for them at the moment and nag me for it all day. So I was a bit surprised when I did feed them that Junior wasn’t there. And then even more surprised when Charley wandered outside after only eating half of hers. And then Junior was there, chomping away.

They swapped places all evening. They made sure at least one of them was outside at all times. Once I noticed this I realised that they’ve been doing that a lot lately.

I’m so proud of them for making our life just that little bit more difficult.

  1. cats are clever…very clever…i used to breed siamese cats {in a previous life} and they were too damned smart for their own good sometimes! but it does make you proud at the same time I’ll agree….
My apologies for the absence this week..I’ve been involved in a project close to my heart and not been visiting at all..people thought i’d died and noone told them!
I actually got half a dozen emails asking if i was ok. I got to the point where I sent a reponse saying “no, I died and mark forgot to tell you” why would you send an email to someone if you really thought they’d died??? DUH!!
All is back to normal now though {well, close to at any rate} so before you know it you’ll be wanting me to piss off out of your face cos I’m here so much!

  2. Yes A-mum, it’s been sooo peaceful. I’m not surprised people thought you had died because you do manage to make a lot of noise in the blogosphere. But I knew where you were and I’ve been to see the fruits of your labours so well done, and aren’t you the most generous friend!

And you might want to look at my post ‘To laugh or not to laugh’ when you have a chance since it was written in response to one of your comments.

    Good to see you back.

  3. Our cats listen to their stomach too much - now they’ve got The Spouse trained to feed them At Their Determined Time nothing would budge their ever-widening furry bums from the house lol.

  4. I want one of those - a spouse-training cat! I thought *our* cats were clever.

  5. Our cat is a bit of a houdini… he has a way of escaping from the house during the middle of the night, no matter how many stacks of bricks, pieces of furniture and boxes we stack in front of his cat door!
And whilst he does open the wire door at the back of our house to let himself in and out, we haven’t yet trained him to close it!! Maybe one day…

  6. I think what you mean, Elissa, is he hasn’t yet trained you to leave it open! Our cat door has latches on it. I think you need one of those, though you’d have to be sure and bring his attention to the fact the first time you use it. I hate to think of a cat leaping through a locked cat flap.
